EUDR Compliance: What African Farmers Need to Know

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) represents one of the most significant shifts in global trade legislation in decades. For African coffee and cocoa farmers, the regulation is not just a compliance hurdle—it's a fundamental change in how they must prove the origin and sustainability of their products.

Why EUDR Matters

Starting in December 2024, any operator or trader who places cocoa, coffee, or five other commodities on the EU market must be able to prove that the products do not originate from land deforested after December 31, 2020. Failure to comply can result in heavy fines and a total ban from the lucrative European market.

The Challenge for Smallholders

While large plantations may have the resources to map their lands, smallholder farmers often lack the digital tools required. This is where Ukofi steps in. Our platform provides the necessary mapping and traceability infrastructure to ensure that even the smallest farm can meet these requirements.

"Our goal is not just compliance, but the empowerment of African farmers through digital identity and transparent data."

How Ukofi Helps

We use GPS polygon mapping to create a digital footprint for every farm. This data is then cross-referenced with satellite imagery to provide proof of zero deforestation. By consolidating this data on our blockchain platform, we simplify the due diligence process for European buyers, ensuring that African farmers remain competitive and connected to global markets.
